After being acquired by EuroParcs, this holiday park in Limburg needed further connection through change. EuroParcs Resort Limburg, a stunning holiday park located in the municipality of Echt-Susteren, is set amid a number of beautiful natural areas. With a beach and a natural lake in the middle of the park where visitors can swim and fish, this park complements its surroundings admirably.
As nice as the park was, the connection between the various outdoor areas was lacking. After being taken over by EuroParcs, the park needed further changes. Martijn Dijkstra, Concept Developer Fun & Entertainment at EuroParcs, aimed to connect the various outdoor areas of the recreation park, leading to the contact with one of our recreation consultants, Remco van de Berg.
Comprehensive site check for the entire holiday park
To conduct a comprehensive site check, our recreation consultant Remco went on site. After taking stock, he came back with a wish list which included the following elements:
- Creating a connection between the terrace and the play area;
- Connecting the animal enclosures with an experience garden;
- Creating a theatre for the entertainment in the park;
- Creating a fire pit for young people;
- Completing the planting at the approach and entrance to the park;
- Installing a Multicourt to offer a variety of sports;
- A volleyball court at the side;
- If possible, a boules court.
Full autonomy granted to the landscape design department.
Based on this wish list, our landscape design department got to work, resulting in a magnificent design.
Relocating miniature golf course for an experience garden
One of the biggest changes at the park has come about by moving the mini-golf course. This had to make way for the new central point on the park. Adjacent to the already existing animal yard, we created an inviting outdoor space: the experience garden. This garden is a green oasis where all visitors to the park can come together. With various (inclusive) play equipment, educational elements, and various sports facilities, there is something active for everyone. And relaxation has also been thought of, by creating a fire pit and a small theatre for entertainment purposes.

Refurbishing sports fields
The old tennis courts also had to go. The existing tennis court was completely cleaned and repaired. By adding a new coating with lines, this court was rearranged for three different sports: football, basketball and pickleball*.
To separate the fields from each other, a high fence, also known as the ball catcher, was placed in the middle. In addition, space has also been created for playing volleyball. A removable volleyball net ensures that this piece of ground has multiple uses.
* Pickleball is a hugely popular and emerging sport in several countries. The ball is similar in size to a tennis ball but is made of plastic and contains holes. The net is a bit smaller than a tennis net and the racket, called paddle, does not contain strings but is hard and made of wood or carbon.
Re-designing terrace
Another significant desire was to enhance the appeal of the catering area, preferably by integrating the terrace with the play area. This would enable parents to linger longer while their children could enjoy themselves freely.
To fulfill this request, we not only linked to the play area on the lower sandy beach but also carved out a section of the terrace to establish a dedicated play area for toddlers. This ensures that they too can play securely, under the vigilant eye of their parents.
The connection between this new play area and the beach play area was ultimately achieved through the creation of a water stream. This stream, crafted with boulders, originates at the pump in the upper play area and flows into the park’s recreational lake. Along the stream on the beach, an adventurous playground was fashioned, featuring a hexagonal swing and a balancing course crafted from FSC®-certified Robinia wood.

Sustainable reuse of materials
The park also contained play equipment that was still in good condition and could therefore be reused perfectly well.
- We relocated the water device previously situated on the recreation beach to the experience garden. Here, it serves as a focal point where children can engage in sand and water play.
- The table tennis table was still in good condition, so we simply relocated it to ensure it fits seamlessly into the new design.
- The existing boules court received a fresh layer of gravel. We bordered the surrounding concrete strips with Douglas wood, and at each end of the court, we installed Douglas fir pergolas adorned with atmospheric lighting, allowing games to continue into the evening.
- The life-size chessboard remains unchanged and has been seamlessly integrated into the design of the new experience garden.
- Similarly, the air trampoline, already in place, was left untouched.
- The mini-golf courses were popular among the park’s guests. Therefore, at EuroParcs’ request, we provided a sketch for repositioning these courts, allowing EuroParcs to relocate them as needed.
- The new outdoor theatre for entertainment purposes was also constructed sustainably. During the terrace renovation, tiles were salvaged and repurposed to create a circular seating area.

Planting plan with flowering table per play location
A holiday park nestled among various natural areas is ideally suited for a green setup. During construction, we promptly installed grass mats throughout the entire area. This not only made the play areas instantly accessible but also enhanced the overall attractiveness of the renewed outdoor spaces.
Furthermore, our landscape designers collaborated with BOERplay’s gardeners to develop a comprehensive planting plan. This plan ensures that the park features greenery and flowering plants for as much of the year as possible, from March to October. A blend of indigenous plants, including shrubs, grasses, and perennials, was selected. We implemented this planting plan to enhance the greenery in each play area within the park, ensuring that park guests are greeted by a lush and blooming environment almost year-round, right from the moment they enter.
