We were approached from a residents’ initiative to redesign part of a playground in Alkmaar. They wanted to rearrange the playground on the Vechtstraat and replace outdated elements. What started with a relatively limited budget grew, through close cooperation, commitment and extra contributions, into a joint project in which various parts of the square can be replaced.
Preservation vs New Elements
The sandbox, which has become redundant, has been filled up and made way for a playhouse on a yellow surface. Playful animal figures have also been added to the artificial grass. The result is a cheerful sight and children who love to play! The photos before and after the redevelopment show how the playground has been renovated.
While retaining a few parts and applying new fresh challenging elements, a new playful layout is created that makes a positive contribution to the living environment. One of the tasks was to reuse the sandbox on the playground, which had become redundant. A diving trio, roundabout, addition of a new climbing equipment and goal goals complete the playground.
