Adventurous play and exercise in the city, it is possible in the Heesterbuurt in The Hague. In the Segbroek district, there was a desire to bring greenery back to the district. Residents of the Heesterbuurt and the municipality of The Hague then made efforts to redesign the playground (a former schoolyard) on the Meidoornstraat, which was in need of renewal, taking this wish into account. Neighborhood participation and cooperation ultimately led to a tailor-made exercise and play trail using new and existing natural elements.
Neighborhood participation
At the beginning of ’17, a special drawing session was started, during which the neighborhood children were given the opportunity to indulge themselves in sketching ideas for the square. Just before the summer, this grew into a concept design, after which BOERplay was eventually called in to arrive at the final design. Adventurous play and exercise predominate in this design.
Customization
A tailor-made adventure climbing and scrambling course has been laid out. Consisting of, among other things, FSC® certified Robinia wood, wooden platforms and sturdy ropes. Supplemented with play and exercise elements for various ages. Placed on a green artificial grass surface. The stately monumental trees are a perky part of the whole. They are honorary spectators of this new playground and are surrounded by specially designed platforms. You can’t get closer to nature! The square was officially inaugurated through a boot camp activity during the festive opening at the end of November.
Cooperation
“In this project, stainless steel has made way for natural elements. And neighborhood participation and close cooperation has led to a tailor-made natural addition to the Heesterbuurt. In this way, we are all making The Hague a little greener again! “Said Marianne Jaarsma of the Segbroek district.
