The playground on Nibbelinkstraat in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht has been refurbished with the active involvement of local residents. Through neighbourhood participation, residents were able to contribute ideas to the design and vote for their favourite layout. The result is a playground that meets the neighbourhood’s needs and provides space for play, exercise and socialising.

For the very first time, children in wheelchairs can safely go down a slide! At BOERplay, we have made this possible with the new inclusive play area on Bolomeystraat in Eindhoven. The SpeelThijnbaan is a wheelchair slide and a historic milestone for equal play opportunities, where children of all abilities can play and enjoy themselves together.

What if you’re in a wheelchair, but love sliding down a slide just as much as any other child? That was the question 9-year-old Thijn from Eindhoven asked himself back in 2020. And he decided to do something about it. His idea: a wheelchair slide that allows you to go up independently and slide down on your own. The design received a lot of praise, was featured in national media, and even earned Thijn a youth award. Still, the slide wasn’t built—no one dared to take on the challenge of actually making it. But Thijn didn’t give up. And he wasn’t alone. We were eager to help bring his idea to life! Together with Thijn, his parents, the municipality, and our designers, we made his dream come true.

Summers  are getting increasingly hotter. While we used to have just a few warm days, we now regularly face heatwaves that last longer and occur more frequently. Our climate is changing – and we’re all feeling the effects. It’s time to find smart solutions for a comfortable living environment! Did you know that a play area can be part of the solution to heat stress? In this blog, you’ll discover how play areas contribute to climate adaptation.

Research shows that the number of children playing outside in the Netherlands has halved in recent years. A lack of play space plays a major role in this decline. In urban areas, play spaces are increasingly disappearing due to high pressure on limited space. Yet, play areas are invaluable. Outdoor play is essential for children's development and also brings numerous benefits to the neighbourhood. In this blog, you'll discover why play areas in the city are so important.

Research by Jantje Beton shows that fewer children are playing outside. One of the reasons for this is a society that is becoming increasingly protective. But what do we lose if we don’t give children the space to take risks? Risky play challenges children to explore their limits, making it an essential part of their physical and motor development. In this blog, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about risky play: Why is it essential for children? How do you determine if a risk is acceptable? And in what ways can we encourage children to explore their boundaries?

The inclusive playground at ASVZ-Merwebolder in Sliedrecht demonstrates how an accessible outdoor space positively impacts people with disabilities. Four years after its completion, we visited the location with Erik de Wit and Marlene Schippers to see if the initially set goals have been achieved.

Football has been one of the most popular sports for many years. Children enjoy this sport and it promotes their social, motor and cognitive development. Read on to discover how football contributes to children's growth.

Playing is more than just having fun; it is a fundamental part of children's growth and development. For example, while playing, children use their senses to gather information about the environment and their own bodies. They learn to control movements, which stimulates balance and equilibrium. However, don't forget the social aspect of play where children learn to work together, respect each other's limits and communicate with each other.

Exercise and sporting keeps you mentally and physically fit and healthy. The recent period of staying at home and working from home has affected our daily life and lifestyle. That’s the outcome of recent Dutch research into the well-being of people as a result of the behavioral measures in this time of corona.

It’s always a pleasure to follow the realisation of projects where there has been a complete proces from concept, development to final production and installation. At this moment we are working on 2 projects in Amsterdam, to (re)place playing equipment and refurbish the complete public area and its surroundings.
