For Villa Bloom in The Hague, right in the heart of the city, we designed an outdoor space that shows just how many opportunities even a small play area can offer.
When space is limited, large play equipment is not always the best solution. It takes up a lot of room, while young children benefit from variety, freedom and sensory experiences. That is why we created a natural play environment at Villa Bloom where discovery takes centre stage. Instead of relying on traditional play equipment, the design of the space itself encourages children to play. Children can: A natural play environment sparks children’s imagination. A small path becomes an adventure trail, while a planted area becomes a place to search for insects or play hide-and-seek. Because the play is open-ended, children continually find new ways to use the space. This encourages creativity, motor development and playing together. “A great play area doesn’t always need play equipment. Natural elements and thoughtful design give children plenty of opportunities to explore, move and use their imagination.
