In the former office building of the Van Leer’s factory, surrounded by greenery, the school building of Amity International School opened back in 2018. Albeit located nearby Amsterdam, but in a wonderfully quiet location, this school offers education to more than 600 children of various nationalities. Due to the expansion of the educational offers from just primary- to also secondary education, the range of play and sports options had to be expanded as well. It has been decided to place the entire project of sports and play options, including the construction of the fences, in the hands of BOERplay.
Redesign
At the school, part of the parking lot was reserved for the senior students. This location with sewerage, lighting, street work and hedges had to be converted into a complete multifunctional play and sports area in a short time. A long selection procedure preceded this. And various proposals had been reviewed. Ultimately, the plan & design proposal of BOERplay was chosen, with a surface by KSP and the fence by ABC Hekwerk.
OUR PLACE
The design of this sports-, play- and meeting space for older students is rather diverse. The entire space has been designed from the OUR PLACE perspective, BOERplay’s unique outdoor design concept for youngsters. With a diverse range of sports and games and outdoor furniture in various heights, on which one decides to sit best at that time. The design has also many open elements, where supervision and control remain guaranteed.
Design
The design is divided in different zones. There is a multifunctional sports field where various sports can be practiced. There is also a part with sports and climbing equipment. Climb to higher places on the climbing equipment or train your arm muscles on the rings or the pull-in, all is possible. There is also a huge swing that one can use with several people and there is the possibility to tumble on the horizontal bars. There is also a separate area to relax or just meet up with other students under a large shade cloth for the necessary shelter. Here are BOERcorners placed, an arrangement of seating furniture, like a tribune with different heights and view options. These sofas are part of the new BOERurban street furniture line.
Cooperation
For this project, a colourful impact area of our partner KSP has been chosen, as well as a fence by ABC Hekwerk. The expertise of all parties in their own field and the great cooperation and flexibility between them have ensured this beautiful result. A versatile and multifunctional sports-, exercise- and meeting place for all senior students of the Amity International School. A place to enjoy sports, exercise, compete with each other or just chat and meet other people.
