At Aafje De Vijf Havens new style, youcan live ‘just like home’, where you and/or your carer do as much as possible yourself.
The inspiring indoor gardens as well as the gardens around the building have been designed for the residents, informal carers, staff, family members. For this, not only residents, staff and management were involved, but also departments such as Physio- and Occupational Therapy provided input. In short: every user and every type of person is addressed in the outdoor space. Throughout all phases (from brainstorming up to realisation), a number of questions were continuously asked: What is the added value for the resident, is there a sustainable application and is reuse of the materials possible.
Exercise, experience and play
In the exercise and experience garden, use has been made of various running surfaces and an inclined course for physio and occupational therapy. Furthermore, exercise equipment and benches for seniors have been installed. These are used during day care, but the equipment is designed in such a way that it can also be used without supervision. Interactive play walls have also been installed along the paths, a real chess game and a water pump. And for the smallest visitors, even a real play ship has been placed in the playground.
Griffin plants and a mini flower meadow have been used to create a colour and scent experience in the garden. This planting is maintenance-friendly, but also composed in such a way that it stimulates the residents. And of course we have also taken biodiversity into account, which is good for insects such as bees and butterflies.
In short: there is a wide range of facilities to meet the needs of residents, visitors and informal carers. From spacious living rooms to meeting rooms and from a brasserie to the exercise, experience and playgarden with play equipment for children and grandchildren.
