Sport, meeting and working out are important to reduce problems such as not enough exercise and lesser social contacts, thus contributing to a resilient society. By designing the outdoor space in such a way that everyone can (continue to) participate in sports, workouts and meeting up, we keep each other fit both physically and mentally. BOERplay emphasizes the importance of and the possibilities for the design of outdoor spaces for healthcare with four concepts that are tailored to different care needs:
More information design concepts for healthcare
- Down Memory Lane, outdoor experience areas for dementia care
- Forever Young, for longer independent living and vital elderly
- Exploring Senses, stimulates the senses of the visually and hearing impaired
- Playing Together, outdoor spaces for people with a physical and / or mental disability
Taking care of the vulnerable
Vulnerable groups are experiencing extra difficulties during the COVID-19 crisis. Not only people in care institutions suffer from the measures taken (for example due to stricter visiting regulations), those who live at home are also struggling. Family members, carers and volunteers cannot provide the attention and care they would like to do. Less guidance is available and activities and visits do not take place or less frequently. As a result, people are less active, spend less time outdoors and have fewer social contacts. Research into the well-being of people during the time of COVID-19 shows that these vulnerable groups, specifically the elderly of 75 and up, feel significantly more lonely.
Provide a better outdoor space
A carefully designed outdoor space contributes to the well-being of people and the quality of a healthcare organization. Make the outdoor space at healthcare institutions accessible for workout, sports and meeting in the open air, with the design concepts for care from BOERplay. We offer integrated designs that ensure that the outdoor space is an extension of the care offered indoors.
