Why create something new when smart reuse is an option?
In Utrecht, we recently completed a fantastic project where reuse played the starring role. An outdated play structure had to make way for something new – but two stainless steel slides were still in great shape! That sparked an idea: reuse, of course!
Happy kids, happy planet!
The municipality of Utrecht asked us to install a new play structure to replace the climbing fort. Reuse wasn’t a requirement, but we immediately saw an opportunity to do something good – for the playground and the environment. We carefully examined what could be saved, and the slides got a fresh, adventurous new setting in the revamped ROCKS structure. Good for the planet and fun for local kids – these proven-fun slides deserved another round! Less waste, more play – that’s what we love.
ROCKS: play equipment that challenges
The renewed play structure is a big success in the playground. The park managers were excited about the way we incorporated reuse in a playful manner. The new ROCKS combination fits beautifully into the area and challenges children to climb, scramble, and slide down in their own unique way.
ROCKS play elements are specially designed to challenge children in different ways. At their own level, they can explore and push boundaries by climbing high and choosing their own path back down. Taking small risks now and then builds confidence and resilience.
Sustainable in every way
The reused slides aren’t the only sustainable aspect of this project. ROCKS equipment is made from recycled plastic, ensuring longer life and lower environmental impact. That’s how we contribute to a circular, future-proof playground in multiple ways.

The Watertower Playground: play among the green
The Watertower Playground is part of Park the Watertower, a green oasis in the Overvecht district of Utrecht. The park offers ample space for sports, play, and walking. The playground itself is popular with children aged 4 to 12, offering a wide variety of play equipment, including a climbing fort – a place to discover, explore and burn off energy.
Second round, double the fun! – Working together on circular play?
This project shows that sustainability and outdoor fun go hand in hand. Why throw things away when you can give them a second life? At BOERplay, we actively work on circular, playful solutions – for even more play value!
