Children must be able to play safely. Pushing boundaries and taking risks is part of the game. Falling is also part of playing and so is bruising. That is why a playground must meet the extensive safety requirements that apply to the equipment and the safety surfaces. There must also be no obstacles directly next to the device. In the Netherlands, playground equipment falls under the Commodities Act Decree on Attraction and Playground Equipment (WAS). The safety of playground equipment is regulated here.
